Moody portrait photography in Southampton

Moody portraits, music and a little bit of atmosphere

Not every portrait needs to be bright, clean and perfectly posed.

For this shoot, I wanted to create something a little darker and more atmospheric - photographs that felt like they belonged to the musician rather than simply being photographs of him.

We kept the lighting deliberately moody and used the studio environment, guitars and other details to help tell the story. Instead of concentrating purely on traditional portraits, I also photographed close-up details, the instruments and some wider environmental shots.

I really enjoy this kind of photography because there isn't necessarily one "correct" way to do it. A portrait can be dramatic, relaxed, creative, unusual or even a little bit strange.

The aim is simply to create photographs that feel right for the person in front of the camera.

Whether you're a musician, performer, artist, business owner, model or just someone who wants photographs that are a bit different, a photoshoot doesn't have to follow the usual formula.

Sometimes all you need is an idea, a little bit of personality and a willingness to try something different.

If you're looking for portrait photography in Southampton or Hampshire and have an idea you'd like to bring to life, get in touch. We can work out the rest together.
